Paris Design Week is going digital in September 2020 and features Toorak-based, French Interior & Furniture Designer Nadia Aber.

Paris Design Week is going digital in September 2020, opening up the event on a larger international scale.

Toorak-based, French Interior & Furniture Designer Nadia Aber has been accepted to showcase her chair collection, La Capsule Royale, at the highly prestigious event. “This is fantastic to have the opportunity to be showing at Paris Design Week and not having to leave Melbourne,” she says.

It’s Aber’s first time showing her work internationally and she is thrilled at the opportunity. “I’m not letting Covid-19 stop me from launching my collection to the world and to be involved in this exclusive event will help expand my brand on a global scale,” she says.

To gain further exposure, Aber has also been accepted to showcase at Maison & Objet a French trade fair for interior design, also transitioning to a digital platform this year that runs alongside Paris Design Week. Maison&Object is the largest global event for the decoration, design, and lifestyle sectors.

Aber collaborated with Australian Fashion Illustrator Megan Hess on the chair collection released in December 2019. The style meets art collaboration is based upon four fantasy-themed characters to deliver a fresh sophistication to interior design.

La Capsule Royale, translated to English means The Regal Capsule, features the excellence of Savoir Faire with sustainability and craftsmanship crucial elements; the chairs are handmade to give a high quality, luxurious finish.

The artwork is meticulously engraved into the Perspex and can also be bespoke. Aber says it’s exciting to have worked on this collaboration and to see their vision presented on the world stage.

“We both share the same love for French style, so to be virtually attending Paris Design Week is exciting as I absolutely adore Megan’s amazing illustrations on my chairs,” Aber says.

Megan Hess has built an international brand working with some of the most prestigious fashion designers and luxury labels including Dior, Chanel, Prada, Louis Vuitton and Chopard.

Hess says it was an honour to be given the opportunity to use the chair as a blank canvas for her art. “As soon as I met Nadia, I knew that I really wanted to collaborate with her as we both shared a love of everything French and we had such a similar passion for design,” Hess says.

The end result was greater than her expectations and it was a moment of pure joy. “When I first saw the final chairs in the flesh, I was almost brought to tears. I have six of the chairs around my dining room table and I literally smile every single time I pass them,” Hess says.
