Melbourne’s ‘Matsumoto’ Japanese bound by tradition!

Nestled on the fringes of Carlton in East Brunswick, Matsumoto Japanese has been serving its famous dishes for the last fourteen years. Founder Alice Chan and Head Chef Fuji Maki – San, met in the 1980s when they worked together at SukiYaki House in Alfred Place, which was regarded as one of the great Japanese restaurants of that era.

Matsumoto Japanese are very customer and food focused and don’t worry about being the “superstar social media restaurant or the NEW big thing,” with the million dollar fit out. They have kept their old world charm decor and it’s perfect for families; lines out the door on a Friday & Saturday night with prams and kids waiting to eat their favourite bento box. Wooden Chairs and tables are simple yet warm and cosy perfect to relax without the need to fuss after a long day.

Matsumoto serves the most traditional and delicious Japanese dishes, Sushi and fresh Sashimi are popular amongst diners including tuna, salmon belly and a favourite is always the king fish.
