The PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival launched this morning and was utterly moving with a welcome from the Wurrundjeri Woi Wurrung and Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Owners of Naarm, also known as Melbourne. As the sun grew warmer over the city with the ambiance and performers, so did our hearts. The excitement that Fashion was back being celebrated again was truly heartfelt and was celebrated with a traditional Smoking Ceremony to officially open this year’s festival.
This year the festival’s activation centre is located in the heart of the city, at Federation Square, and for the period of the festival will be known as the Fashion District precinct, so if you’re arriving by train, by tram, bike or any other form of transportation there is no better place to be if you love fashion and want to be apart of the action.
The Fashion District hosts a vibrantly diverse pop-up collection of activities that will captivate and unite Festival-goers and passers-by, including a champagne lounge.
Caroline Ralphsmith, CEO of Fed Square and Board Director of Melbourne Fashion Festival, Lord Mayor, Sally Capp, Launa Inman, Chair of Melbourne Fashion Festival and Andrew Toon, GM Payments, PayPal all spoke about the 10-day program to be staged across multiple Melbourne iconic locations that will feature fashion, arts and workshop events for everyone to enjoy and feel apart of.
The designers from the First Nations runway in this year’s Melbourne Fashion Festival displayed their designs through and audience made runway and included, MAARA Collective, NGALI, Amber Days, Liandra Swim, Kirrikin, Wa-Ring and Yanggurdi.
