Multi-award-winning writer and performer Ash Flanders is no stranger to the BRUNSWICK BALLROOM having wowed audiences at the Opening Gala.
On July 1 & 8, Ash Flanders is Nothing will be taking us on a profoundly funny freewheeling time-traveling journey like no other, mixing storytelling with song and comedy with tragedy. Because when life is this gleefully punishing, the material just writes itself.
Ash Flanders says of his upcoming performances, “After burning the stage to the ground at the Opening Gala, the BRUNSWICK BALLROOM practically begged me to return with a new show, but when negotiations turned nasty, they insisted on picking the title. So, I guess I’ll see you at ‘Ash Flanders is Nothing’!”
“I personally had the delight of reviewing the show that encompassed singing and great storytelling infused with lots of laughter that captivated us audience. The stunning Brunswick Ballroom was a full house offering great ambiance for the fabulous monologue that Ash Flanders presented to us.
A journey through his life was told with an extreme of emotion felt, yes there were fun times but also extreme sadness, a story of love with his partner to a horrific cancer diagnosis that then saw this person also contact the dreaded Covid 19. Little did I realise until the end that this was a true story and tribute to Ash’s partner Daniel who is revealed at the end of the show. Daniel was in the audience watching as Ash presented his story. I found this a truly magical performance by Ash and left with feelings of emotions that he had told the story of the one he has loved so very much.”
Melbourne’s most dynamic and exciting performance venue the BRUNSWICK BALLROOM offers patrons the chance to experience music, cabaret, and comedy alongside wonderful food and wine.
The cabaret lineup at the venue is curated by theatrical producer Liza McLean from Tinderbox Productions. McLean says of the Cabaret at the Ballroom program, “BRUNSWICK BALLROOM is a brilliant new venue in the heart of arguably one of Melbourne’s most thriving artistic communities, it is a pleasure to be curating the Cabaret and Theatre events at this magnificent venue and we hope audiences enjoy their first taste of what’s to come.”
The BRUNSWICK BALLROOM is a fully accessible venue seating up to 300 people, combining the best of London’s legendary Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and New York City institution Joe’s Pub with Melbourne’s own 1990’s icon, The Continental Café, bringing style back to Melbourne’s music scene.
