Melbourne Designer JASONGRECH presents Fashion Week’s runway with sharp shoulders, layered frills, and a-symmetrical lines #JGAW20

JASONGRECH graced Virgin Australia’s Melbourne Fashion Festival with an all-new show-stopping collection that celebrates his hometown, the city of Melbourne.

Interview with Melinda Sullivan

When did you start designing Autumn-Winter 2020, and how many hours were spent putting the entire collection together?

Jason says, “I started the AW20 collection in November. It’s very hard to pinpoint the number of hours that goes into designing a collection. My brain does not stop and jumps from one thing to another.  I could be working on a bridal dress or having dinner when inspiration hits me and I’m constantly moving from one project to the next”.

What made you decide to incorporate the Graffiti component of the collection and what does it represent to you?

Jason says, “my last two seasons prior to the AW20, were about celebrating my cultural country Malta (St. John Co-Cathedral) and the following was my link between my Maltese and Australian Heritage.  My collections represent who I am and how I’m feeling at a certain time in my life. Just like a songwriter does with their music, I do mine through fashion”.

The AW20 Collection celebrates my hometown Melbourne and its Graffiti Art scene.  Each dress is named after a Melbourne suburb.

The range is synonymous with luxury and includes a mix of red-carpet dresses, short party frocks with removable overskirts, and ‘gala to party’ outfits.

The designs showcase Melbourne-inspired graffiti merged with the JASONGRECH monogram – Maltese cross, JG initials and scorpion from the Grech family crest and were brought to life with a vibrant color palette of Fuchsia, Citrine, Cobalt Blue, Blue Zircon, Rose, Coral, and Teal.

Jason Grech, Melbourne designer-to-the-stars and founder of JASONGRECH says, “Expect an emphasis on shapes with sharp shoulders, layered frills and a-symmetrical lines that are tailored to each individual and designed to enhance the female body shape.”

This evening’s event attracted a range of fashionistas, models, actors and media personalities, including Isabel Lucas, Kiera Maguire, Tania Buckley, Georgia Love, and Leeroy Elliot.
