John Farnham Tribute Concert to Unite Global Superstars for a Once-in-a-Generation Melbourne Celebration
Australia will come together to celebrate one of its most beloved musical icons when The Songs of John Farnham: A Living Legend – The Celebration Concert takes over Rod Laver Arena on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
In what promises to be one of the biggest live music events of the year, an extraordinary lineup of Australian and international stars will perform the songs that helped define generations, while raising vital funds for Head and Neck Cancer Australia.
Featuring more than 120 artists live on stage, including the legendary John Farnham Band, a 38-piece orchestra and choir under the direction of longtime musical director Chong Lim, the one-night-only event will honour the enduring legacy of a performer whose music has become woven into the fabric of Australian culture.

The impressive artist lineup includes: Tina Arena, Jimmy Barnes, Mahalia Barnes, Kate Ceberano, Diesel, Hans, Human Nature, Jack Jones, Richard Marx, Jessica Mauboy, Ruby Rodgers, Jon Stevens, Mitch Tambo, Keith Urban, Mark Vincent and Ross Wilson.
Keith Urban reflected on what has made John Farnham one of Australia’s most enduring and successful performers.
“John’s ability to have hit after hit after hit in one era, and then again in another era, becoming even bigger each time, is how you build decade after decade of success,” Urban said. “He has delivered incredible songs and unforgettable concerts, and on top of that, he’s one of the most down-to-earth Aussies you’ll ever meet.” Urban’s comments highlighted not only Farnham’s remarkable career longevity but also the genuine humility that has endeared him to generations of Australians.

Adding an international dimension to the celebration, music icon Celine Dion will perform via satellite from Paris, while Hugh Jackman will join from Los Angeles, paying tribute to the artist whose voice has inspired audiences around the world for decades.

Celine Dion described Farnham as “one of the great voices of the world,” saying she was honoured to help celebrate a performer whose music continues to resonate globally.
The concert will be staged at Rod Laver Arena, a venue forever linked to Farnham’s remarkable career. Over the years, the Australian superstar has performed there an astonishing 94 times, entertaining more than one million fans and cementing his place as one of the country’s most successful live performers.
More than a concert, the event represents a powerful fundraising initiative supporting Head and Neck Cancer Australia. The cause holds deep personal significance for Farnham following his own battle with head and neck cancer, with proceeds helping provide specialist support services, information and advocacy for the thousands of Australians diagnosed with the disease each year.
Nadia Sookram, CEO of Head and Neck Cancer Australia, said the organisation was deeply grateful to have the support of someone as respected and influential as John Farnham.
She explained that having a figure of Farnham’s stature champion the cause is incredibly rare and will bring unprecedented awareness to head and neck cancer. Sookram said the concert will help shine a spotlight on the challenges faced by patients and their families while generating vital funding for support services, education and advocacy. “This is more than a concert,” she said. “It’s an opportunity to save lives through awareness, early detection and support.”
Fans can expect an emotional journey through Farnham’s extraordinary catalogue, including classics such as You’re The Voice, Burn For You, Age of Reason, A Touch of Paradise, Two Strong Hearts, Pressure Down and Chain Reaction.
These songs have served as the soundtrack to countless Australian lives, marking milestones, celebrations and deeply personal moments across generations. For one unforgettable night, they will be reimagined by some of the finest performers in the country and beyond.
In a statement, Farnham expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support behind the event.
“I’ve been incredibly lucky to spend my life doing what I love, and even luckier to have Australians embrace my music the way they have. This night isn’t about me — it’s about giving something back and supporting a cause that means a great deal to me.”

The significance of the event has also been recognised by former Governor-General General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove, who described Farnham as one of modern Australia’s most iconic figures.
The celebration is being produced by Tony Cochrane AM and Thea Jeanes-Cochrane of Cochrane Entertainment Collective alongside Paul Dainty AO of TEG Dainty, bringing together an unprecedented gathering of talent to honour a living legend.
Paul Dainty, CEO of TEG Dainty, said an event of this scale could only happen through the dedication and support of many people working behind the scenes.
“It takes a village to make an event like this happen,” he said, thanking the many contributors who helped bring the celebration concert to life. Dainty paid special tribute to Victorian Minister for Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos for his ongoing support, as well as John Farnham’s longtime manager Gaynor Wheatley and the team at Talentworks for their commitment to honouring Farnham’s extraordinary legacy.
Importantly, organisers have confirmed that while the evening is a tribute to John Farnham, the singer himself will not be performing.
For fans of Australian music, this is far more than a concert. It is a historic celebration of a career that has united generations, inspired millions and produced some of the most recognisable songs in Australian music history.
With tickets expected to sell quickly, this one-night-only event is shaping up as one of Melbourne’s most anticipated entertainment experiences of 2026.
