The Festival is Officially Here: Celebrating 30 Years of Fashion Innovation
Last night marked a momentous occasion as the 2026 PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival officially launched at the iconic Government House. This year’s festival is particularly special, celebrating its 30th anniversary, a milestone that showcases three decades of creativity, innovation, and the relentless spirit of the fashion industry in Victoria.

Hosted by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria, the evening was a jubilant celebration of fashion, culture, and community. The Hon. Steve Dimopoulos, Minister for Tourism, Sport, and Major Events, also graced the event, emphasising the significance of the festival in promoting not only local design talent but also the vibrant creative industry that flourishes in Victoria.
Launa Inman, Chair of the Festival Board, reflected on the profound impact the festival has had over the years, highlighting its pivotal role in championing emerging designers and fostering a sense of unity within the fashion landscape.

Aron Katona, a celebrated industry designer, passionately believes that this festival is a launching pad for fresh talent! “I’ve been showcasing emerging artists and providing them a stage to dazzle like no other,” he exclaims. The joy of witnessing their transformation into their fullest potential is nothing short of exhilarating for me!

The night was a magical convergence of Melbourne’s most influential designers and creatives, who gathered to celebrate the festival’s legacy and future. Among the special guests was the multi-talented Dannii Minogue, whose contributions to the fashion world resonate far beyond her singing career. Also in attendance was Anastasia Fai Kogan, founder of a multimedia agency, who continues to inspire as a fashion enthusiast, alongside actress and fashion influencer Sharon Johal, whose vibrant presence added a touch of glamour to the evening.
As I mingled with the crowd of creatives, I had the opportunity to speak with Todd Anthony, the Head of Fashion programming, and Sai-Wai Foo also of Programming and Events. Their passion for the festival was palpable, as they discussed the exciting line-up of events planned for this year, aimed at showcasing the diverse talents within the fashion community.

Todd Anthony, “Melbourne Fashion Festival, is a beautiful platform for all creatives in Melbourne and surrounding areas, to showcase their work.
I am looking forward to celebrating our 30th anniversary with almost 200 events which I think is possibly our biggest ever and includes MYER, this time with Topshop.

Sai-Wai Foo, “there is a very mixed variety of activities for those who are not so versed in fashion, and then there are some for those that have made fashion their forte.
The independent program is bigger than ever this year, many familiar faces in the industry are coming back to celebrate this 30th anniversary.”

I also engaged with renowned industry designers Gwendolynne Burkin and Con Ilio, whose innovative designs and dedication to their craft exemplify the essence of Melbourne’s fashion identity.
Gwendolynne Burkin, “this is my 29th year at the Fashion Festival, I had my first runway in their 2nd year which was at the emerging designers show, which at the time made me feel so elevated and accepted as a designer.
I have grown up with this festival, so it’s really important to me. The festival brings a sense of community a feeling of belonging and so much support to each other. All the designers bring something unique to the city and we all love growing and believing in each other.”

Con Ilio, “my collection at this year’s runway will be all black, I can’t wait for everyone to see what I’ve been working on. I love Black, I believe Black represents Melbourne and it’s perfect for Autumn Winter.
We are currently working under the pump everyday with last minute details to have it finished just in time. The festival is so important to me as a designer to have the opportunity to present a whole collection on a runway is everything to me and for my clients to visualise.”

The 2026 PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival is not just an event; it’s a celebration of creativity, resilience, and the enduring spirit of fashion. As it kicks off, it invites everyone—designers, fashion enthusiasts, and the broader community—to come together and immerse themselves in a world where style meets innovation. With its rich history and promising future, the festival is set to elevate Melbourne’s status as a global fashion capital.
Join us in celebrating this incredible milestone and supporting local talent as the festival unfolds over the coming days. Whether you’re a seasoned fashionista or simply curious about the world of design, the 2026 PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival promises to inspire and captivate.
