The 2025 Howden Victoria Derby: A Dazzling Start to Australia’s Greatest Week of Racing
The 2025 Howden Victoria Derby has officially kicked off Australia’s greatest week of racing, drawing an impressive crowd of 82,112 racegoers to the iconic Flemington track. With the thrill of competition in the air, the Derby Day festivities unfolded in spectacular fashion, showcasing not only the excitement of horse racing but also the pinnacle of Australian fashion and style.

At the heart of the day’s glamour was the world-famous Birdcage, transformed into a striking black and white spectacle. The atmosphere was electric as attendees embraced the theme, showcasing their unique fashion statements while staying true to the Derby’s prestigious heritage. Landmark by Lexus proudly welcomed The White Lotus actress Michelle Monaghan, who captivated onlookers in an elegant Altizarra ensemble, complemented by exquisite millinery from Magda Buyrym.

The fashion stakes were undoubtedly high, with Crown Ambassador Rebecca Judd turning heads in a stunning custom creation by J’Aton, solidifying her status as a fashion icon at the track. Close behind her in the style stakes was former Miss Universe Australia, Moraya Wilson, who captivated in custom Alin Le’ Kal. The competition for best-dressed was fierce, yet each attendee brought their own flair, elevating the day’s fashion to new heights.

Among the notable attendees, television personality Karl Stefanovic made a memorable entrance, channelling a Nashville vibe with a western twist, all while sporting a contagious smile alongside his wife, Jasmine. Recently married couple Lexi Lobb and AFL star Rory Lobb turned heads with their coordinated custom outfits and Lexi again choosing a custom Alin Le’ Kal dress. Lexi shared her gratitude, stating that Alin had crafted her wedding gown and was “simply the best.” Remarkably, Alin and Lexi had devised her Derby Day outfit just two nights prior to the Derby, showcasing their spontaneity.

Fashion favourite Lindy Klim and her daughter Stella also made waves, with Lindy donning a vintage Toni Maticevski tulle skirt paired with striking Christian Louboutin heels. When asked about comfort, Lindy humorously noted that while they looked fabulous, the heels were far from comfortable. Brooke Warne added to the glamour with a newly acquired Chanel bag, a keepsake from her recent London trip with her mother, Simone.

Lana Wilkinson made a statement in a stunning piece from Melbourne label Cappellazzo Couture, accentuated by her signature Lana Wilkinson heels. Meanwhile, Rozalia Russian turned heads in Givenchy, and Elliot Garnaut showcased the artistry of Jacquemus, proving that fashion knows no bounds when it comes to the Derby.

The 2025 Howden Victoria Derby was not only a celebration of horse racing with but a resounding affirmation of style and creativity. We congratulate Observer land the $2 million Group 1 Howden Victoria Derby (2500m) for jockey Mark Zahra, trainer Ciaron Maher and the powerful Godolphin stable.
