The prestigious NGV Gala celebrates the exhibition opening of ALEXANDER McQUEEN, the most influential designer of the 21st Century.

The prestigious annual NGV Gala was back in Melbourne last night for the premiere exhibition of Internationally acclaimed Fashion Designer Alexander Mc Queen.

The highly anticipated exhibition, Alexander McQueen is unlike anything we’ve seen before at Melbourne’s NGV and showcases over 120 designs, accessories and 80 artworks that were of inspiration to McQueen during his Fashion reign.

VIP guests of David Jones included Elsa Pataky, Victoria Lee, Adam Goodes, Nathan McGuire, Tom Derickx, and The Hon. Julie Bishop.

Many arrived via a fleet of Mercedes-Benz, with special guests Shalom Harlow, Phoebe Tonkin, Georgia Fowler, Maddison Brown, and Gabriella Brooks adorned in Tiffany & Co. jewellery.

Over 1000 guests attended last night’s NGV Gala, with many paying tributes to the late Alexander McQueen by wearing one of his designs or choosing to accessorise with a piece from one of his collections.

McQueen was perhaps the most influential designer of the 21st century with his most famous motif the skull being recognised and loved the world over. The skull design is popular on his knuckle bags and iconic scarfs.

Special guests of Moët & Chandon celebrated in the Great Hall and were entertained by special guest Baker Boy. The NGV chose an all-Australian music line-up for the evening that also included DJ sets by Ebony Boadu, YO! MAFIA and Soju Gang.

Tony Ellwood AM, Director, NGV, said: ‘Alexander McQueen is beloved for his boundary-pushing and highly conceptual designs that set him apart from his contemporaries. With meticulous craftsmanship and an intellectual rigour seldom seen on the runways before or since he created a new vocabulary for fashion design that still resonates today.
