LINDSAY NICHOLAS NEWYORK – Opens her Loft Style Signature Boutique on Melbourne’s Little Collins Street.

Lindsay Nicholas is a renowned marketing and advertising professional turned designer, who hails from New York City.  Lindsay for as long as she can remember was always drawing women’s clothes. Lindsay has always adored fashion and has fond memories of drawing and designing in her notepad as a child – designs that are not dissimilar to the pieces her brand creates today. A luxury retail veteran, Lindsay studied a Masters’s in Communication at Boston University which led her to roles such as Head of Global Marketing for Paspaley Pearls and Executive Director of Retail Marketing for Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

Lindsay was in New York during 9/11 and says, “it was one of those transformational moments I think for so many people. When we eventually returned to the city many of us decided we wanted a career change and to find our true passion. I went and enrolled in a fashion design program at Parsons School of Design, which is quite a famous design school, you know sort of up there I guess with the Central Saint Martins and The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. A lot of famous designers studied at Parsons like Marc Jacobs.”

Lindsay now lives in Melbourne, Australia, and is making her mark on the local fashion industry.

She launched her namesake label, Lindsay Nicholas New York, in 2015 and brought it to Australian shores in 2019. Lindsay opened her first Melbourne store in the emerging designer section of the South Melbourne Market where there are a lot of great Australian labels. The South Melbourne woman is a woman of distinction and knows quality and great craftsmanship. Lindsay was building up a great clientele and then Covid hit! “I can’t even remember how many times we opened and closed and opened and closed.”

A few years down the track and Lindsay’s flagship store has recently opened on Melbourne’s Little Collins Street, a fitting neighbourhood for this transcontinental brand.

Lindsay says, “I love fashion design but don’t possess the technical skills so much, I’m great with ideas but not so much at pattern making, so that’s why I’ve been more of a creative director now with my brand.”

Around a year ago Lindsay was accepted into the Australian fashion council’s incubator program called The Australian Fashion Council’s Curated program, this was a life-changing moment. Lindsay says, “ around 200 designers applied, and they picked I think 17 or 18 of us. I put so much into my presentation and was accepted which was life-changing and has opened a lot of doors. I have had an amazing mentor who’s still somebody that I keep in touch with all the time. She gives me tough love and straight talk about my collections and my business in general.”

Lindsay is also a former board member of The Association of Image Consultants International (AICI).

Above all, Lindsay is a fashion connoisseur who loves to bring the best out of her confident customer by giving her a sophisticated yet comfortable edge to turn heads and express herself. Her range of effortlessly-cool attire accommodates itself entirely for the lifestyle of the stylish, executive woman.

Lindsay’s New York vibe Loft style store is a place for people to come together who enjoy great fashion, they have a little VIP area and a little wine fridge for those who love to linger over a personal consultation and styling. Lindsay is happy for those who just want to pop in with their morning coffee and spend time for a sit and a chat. Even if you’re not buying.” I want people to feel like this is a place that they can sort of you know stop in between meetings in the city if they’re running around, you know it’s just a nice place to come in, and a great chance to build a lasting relationship centered around Fashion.”
