If anyone knows of the craftsmanship that goes into creating an authentic handmade item, it is PATRÓN Tequila, with every element of the premium spirit being handcrafted. It is this appreciation of, and commitment to, craftsmanship that has led PATRÓN Tequila to collaborate with Melbourne ceramicist, Tantri Mustika, to host a virtual PATRÓN Tequila ceramics masterclass on Thursday 19 November at 6:30 pm.
With just forty tickets available for the exclusive PATRÓN masterclass, attendees will learn how to make two succulent planters with Tantri, whose colourful hand-built ceramics, much like PATRÓN Tequila, are created in small, handcrafted batches with meticulous care and precision. Tickets to the class are $40 each, with attendees receiving a box prior to the evening which includes air-dry clay to create the succulent planters, clay tools, two 50ml PATRÓN Tequila bottles, two martini glasses, and a PATRÓN Tequila bee strainer – all you need to create your favourite PATRÓN cocktail at home.
Tantri, who is renowned for her unique ceramics which incorporate a modern spin on traditional terrazzo tiling, will host the PATRÓN masterclass via Zoom, and said of the collaboration, “I am excited to be hosting the PATRÓN masterclass in the hope that I can show even just one person what I get from working with clay. We live in a world where things are made so quickly and in a lot of cases disposed of just as fast, but I think times are changing and people are starting to appreciate slow crafted items as things they will keep for a long time. There is a very different level of care that goes into handmade ceramics and I’m looking forward to sharing this during the masterclass.”
A re-appreciation of all things handmade has been steadily growing in recent years, and with people looking for objects that have enduring value, and are meaningful and sustainable, PATRÓN want to share Tantri’s artform of ceramics with the masterclass attendees to encourage them to try crafting their own handmade item from the comfort of their home.
PATRÓN’s desire to share their passion for craftsmanship stems from how the spirit is made, with 60 hands needed to create the tequila. From the farmers, known as Jimadors, who harvest the agave that become tequila, to the agave being crushed using the ancient Tahona stone method, to the local Mexican glass artisans who mould and handpick the PATRÓN Tequila bottles, every part of PATRÓN is created by hand.
