The 2019 Lexus Melbourne Cup, was the talk of the town.

The Melbourne Cup 2019 was anything but drab with stunning rays of sunshine and fashion of course being the integral part of the day for many.

This year fashion and style created much talk, about why dress code protocol is not being adhered to by all. Many seem to be misunderstanding what constitutes ‘Race Wear’ attire, with cut-outs, breasts being flaunted under suit jackets with no shirting, two pieces with cropped tops exposing midriffs and this year foil like metallic fabrics which need to be left for the after parties.

Some say the rules don’t matter it’s a time to be bold and stand out, I say it’s the one time of the year we have an excuse to get dressed up and be elegant and sophisticated, presenting ourselves to those around the globe watching, ‘The Race that Stops the Nation,’ with style and grace.

Lady Kitty Spencer the niece of the late Princess Diana, was the special guest for Lexus and dazzled in a timeless ‘Roland Mouret’ dress that happens to be one of Britain’s most well-loved designers. The luxurious dress with millinery by Stephen Jones, showcased her stunning hourglass figure, yet was true to race day elegance, that wowed all those privileged to meet her, during her time in the Birdcage.

The question remains, should we tighten dress code standards or is this current trend of breaking the rules the change of things to come?
