NGV Melbourne presents – MoMA 130 years of Modern Contemporary Art

MoMA is an exhibition direct from New York City’s, ‘Museum of Modern Art’ (MoMA) presenting art works from the likes of Pablo Picasso, Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keeffe, Henri Matisse and Salvador Dali.

MoMA is NGV’s largest winter master pieces exhibition to date, encompassing the entire ground floor and has been curated into six distinctive areas, Architecture and Design, Drawings and Prints, Film, Media and Performing Arts, Photography and Painting and Sculpture.

Glenn D. Lowry the director of MoMA in NYC attended the Media Launch on Friday 8th June at NGV in Melbourne and said they were thrilled to be working alongside Tony Ellwood NGV’s director, in sharing such an extraordinary and diverse selection of art works that have spanned across 130 years.

Creative Industries minister Martin Foley said “MoMA at NGV is set to be another blockbuster”, he also spoke of the new plans the Victorian State Government have to create Australia’s largest contemporary art gallery, to be called ‘NGV Contemporary’ and is due for completion in 2025.

Victoria is set to become Australia’s largest Arts/Culture Capital with exhibitions such as ‘Dior’ and recently ‘Triennial’, bringing more than 1.2 million visitors through the doors.
