Melbourne Fashion Week
Melbourne Fashion Week (M/FW) made a spectacular comeback on Monday, October 20th, with an exclusive media preview that set the stage for an exhilarating week of fashion. The preview took place at the stunning level 38 of GPT 530 Collins Street, attendees were treated to breathtaking views of Melbourne’s skyline, creating the perfect backdrop for a celebration of creativity and style.

This year’s showcase of local and emerging talent, featuring an impressive line-up of designers who brought their unique visions to life. The runway buzzed with excitement as collections from the likes of Goompi’s Girl, Tjarlii Art, and Gammin Threads took centre stage. Each designer offered a fresh perspective, reflecting Melbourne’s rich cultural tapestry through fashion. Other noteworthy names included Lovaan, Godwin Charli, Perple, and Saint Stella M, among many others, who presented innovative designs that captivated the audience.

The event was graced by the presence of Lord Mayor Nick Reece and Councillor Mark Scott, who warmly welcomed all attendees to the preview. The front row was a constellation of style icons and influencers, including Lana Wilkinson, Charlene Davies, and Olivia Molly Rogers, all of whom brought their own flair to the occasion. The energy was electric as fashion enthusiasts like Hannah Dal Sasso and Ella Christo mingled, sharing their excitement for the week ahead.

We chatted to celebrity stylist and Footwear Designer Lana Wilkinson about this morning’s launch and the slogan,
‘Come as you are’.

Lana Wilkinson says, “What I love about M/FW is that it sets the scene for what we can wear to the Spring Racing Carnival, the NGV Gala and Christmas Parties. We all get a lot of inspiration even when it comes to Hair and Makeup. M/FW connects the brands to the consumer, especially as we can Shop the Runway. I love the slogan ‘Come as you are’ as Melbourne is all about diversity, creativity and amongst the fashion set we very much celebrate colour and I love that we embrace this as a fashion community.”
I asked Lana about being Influenced by what we see on Runways, Social Media and how we can make it our own.
“We are all guilty about being influenced by a major celebrity or a movie, you don’t have to look exactly like the person to adapt it, fine tune what you love about the look, it may be the colour or the cut. For me, I always love a mini skirt as it highlights my legs, be true to your own sense of style, when you do that, you can never put a foot wrong.”

Running from October 20 to 26, Melbourne Fashion Week will feature over 600 designers and retailers. With more than 100 events and sessions lined up, there’s something for everyone, from runway shows and panel discussions to immersive experiences that celebrate the art of fashion. This year, M/FW continues its tradition of showcasing not only established names but also nurturing emerging designers, creating a platform for fresh talent to shine.
