The 2024 National Gallery of Victoria GALA: A Night of Dazzling Art by YAYOI KUSAMA and Star Power.
The 2024 National Gallery of Victoria GALA opened with a burst of vibrant energy, celebrating the latest major exhibition by avant-garde artist YAYOI KUSAMA. As the pink carpet awaited the arrivals, anticipation hung in the air like confetti, and the first big name to greet the media was none other than our beloved Toni Collette. Her arrival was soon followed by actress Rachel Griffiths, instantly conjuring memories of their iconic roles in ‘Muriel’s Wedding’.
The evening was a fashion feast, with Australian and international supermodel Shanina Shaik turning heads in a sculptural tartan gown designed by emerging Melbourne designer Jarrod Reid. Shanina needed a team to help navigate her every step in the ‘bean bag’ styled gown that was tightly laced through the top.
Former Miss Universe Australia Olivia Molly Rogers was attending her fist NGV Gala with partner Hugo Breakey.
Olivia said, “ I am wearing Sam Oglia-Loro Couture, he’s amazing, he custom made this dress for me and I absolutely love it. This is my first time here, I love art, I love fashion and it combines so many of my favourite things.
As the stars continued to shine, Joel Edgerton made a suave entrance alongside Teresa Palmer and Kat Stewart, reminding us of the cinematic prowess that Australia proudly represents on the global stage.
Sporting legends Ariarne Titmus and Darcy Moore made their own stylish marks, blending the worlds of athletics and haute couture effortlessly.
Model Silvana Philippoussis looked effortlessly chic in a classic head-to-toe BOSS outfit. She hit the carpet alongside her brother Emanuel, while her husband, former tennis star Mark Philippoussis, was on his way home from a tournament in Dubai.
Silvana said, “Mark is on the way home from Dubai as we speak, he’s been busy playing some tennis there, and will be warmed up for the second week of the Australian Open, where he will play in the Legends event. I’m always excited to watch him play at home.”
But the true showstopper of the night was Julia Fox, the bestselling author and magnetic New York Times personality. Dazzling in a bespoke creation inspired by KUSAMA’s ‘Chandelier of Grief,’ her outfit reflected the infinity of the mirror room, styled with flair by Briana Andalore and crafted by designer Catholic Guilt.
Melissa Leong who is always one to watch on the red carpet has just finished up from judging ‘Dessert Masters’, shared her excitement for the Gala. She loves it because it’s the perfect way to wrap up a busy year. Getting dressed up and celebrating all the fun memories is what it’s all about!
Melissa said, “ I’m wearing ‘Romance was Born that is a collaboration with first nations designer artist Zaachariaha Fielding, this is the most incredible piece to wear I feel so special.
The 2024 GALA was more than just an evening of art; it was a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the undeniable connection between fashion and the world of contemporary art. With every arrival, the night became a living canvas, proving once again that art truly knows no boundaries.
