Taste Port Douglas Food & Drink Festival 2026: Why This Tropical Winter Escape Should Be on Your Bucket List

While winter usually calls for oversized coats and weekends spent indoors, Port Douglas has a different idea. Here, August means sun-drenched afternoons, balmy evenings and long lunches that seem to stretch effortlessly into sunset.

It’s exactly the kind of setting that makes Taste Port Douglas Food & Drink Festival feel less like a food festival and more like the ultimate winter getaway.

More Than 40 Events Make Taste Port Douglas Australia’s Ultimate Winter Food Festival

Returning from 6–9 August for its 10th anniversary, the boutique festival has unveiled its biggest program yet, with more than 40 events celebrating the very best of food, wine and tropical living. Set between two World Heritage icons—the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest—it’s one of the few festivals where the destination is just as memorable as the menu.

This year’s culinary line-up is reason enough to book the trip. Internationally acclaimed chefs Kirk Westaway, Rishi Naleendra, Ryan Clift, Michael Wilson and Sam Aisbett will join Australian favourites Manu Feildel, Colin Fassnidge, Mindy Woods, Ben Williamson and Jerry Mai, alongside a host of celebrated producers, winemakers and local talent.

The four-day program offers something for every kind of food lover. The Official Festival Launch Party sets the tone before the Lexus Long Lunch Series returns for two afternoons of exceptional dining in spectacular surrounds. Festival Village will once again become the social heart of the weekend, while the Takeover Series and Moffat Masterclass Series offer exclusive opportunities to experience some of the country’s most exciting chefs up close.

Then there are the signature events that have become synonymous with Taste Port Douglas. Night of Fire transforms an evening into a celebration of live-fire cooking, while Sunrise Session invites guests to begin the day with unforgettable food against one of Australia’s most breathtaking backdrops. It’s the kind of itinerary that makes you wish weekends lasted a little longer.

Why Port Douglas Is the Perfect Tropical Escape This Winter

Festival Director Spencer Patrick says the festival has always been about more than exceptional dining.

“People come to Taste Port Douglas for the food, but they fall in love with the feeling of the place—the warmth, the setting, and the way the weekend flows.”

And perhaps that’s what continues to set Taste Port Douglas apart. Beyond the acclaimed chefs and beautifully curated events, it’s a chance to experience winter differently. One moment you’re dining beside the Coral Sea, the next you’re exploring ancient rainforest or lingering over another glass of wine as the sun disappears below the horizon.

If there was ever a reason to trade winter layers for tropical skies, this is it. With final release tickets now on sale, Taste Port Douglas Food & Drink Festival is shaping up to be one of Australia’s most coveted winter weekends—and one you’ll likely still be talking about long after the last course is served.
