Magical Premiere of ‘Anastasia’ at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre

Last night, the highly anticipated world premiere of the enchanting musical ‘Anastasia’ unfolded at the magnificent Regent Theatre in Melbourne, transforming the venue into a dreamlike realm of history, romance, and adventure. The atmosphere was electric as stars graced the red carpet, adding to the night’s allure. Among the notable arrivals were Christian Wilkins and his friend Mia Morrissey, who were there to support her partner, Robert Tripolino, who plays the charming con artist Dmitry. The spotlight, however, shone brightest on the incredible Georgina Hopson, who mesmerised the audience in her portrayal of Anya, a brave young woman on a quest to uncover her past.

Set against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution and the vibrant streets of 1920s Paris, ‘Anastasia’ weaves a spellbinding tale inspired by the mysterious Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov. The story follows Anya as she embarks on an epic adventure, pursued by an army officer intent on silencing her. With the help of Dmitry and the lovable ex-aristocrat Vlad, she seeks not only to discover her origins but also to find love and family.

The premiere was simply magical, with the principal cast delivering performances that left the audience in awe. Georgina Hopson shone brilliantly as Anya, perfectly capturing the character’s courage and vulnerability. Robert Tripolino charmed the crowd as Dmitry, while Joshua Robson effectively embodied the role of the antagonist Gleb. The beloved Rhonda Burchmore brought warmth and humour to her portrayal of Countess Lily, and the legendary Nancye Hayes AM graced the stage as the Dowager Empress, adding depth to the production.

Every element of the performance, from the breathtaking vocals to the intricate choreography, including a stunning ballet sequence, transported attendees into a regal realm reminiscent of a grand castle. It was a true feast for the senses, blending moving storytelling with visually captivating artistry.
