Some of the most notable looks included our Australian actress Margot Robbie in a Chanel design worn by Cindy Crawford in 1993. Supermodel Gisele Bundchen was in Vintage Chanel, which she’d worn prior for an editorial shoot for Karl Lagerfeld. Pop sensation Dua Lipa also wore Chanel, which was previously worn by 90’s Supermodel Claudia Schiffer.
Jeremy Pope respectfully paid tribute with a cape from Balmain which featured Karl’s face and signature look. Model Kendall Jenner paid homage to Lagerfeld with a sequined swimwear design, paying respect to his collections from his 1990s swimwear designs for Chanel.
The event also featured an exhibition of Lagerfeld’s most iconic designs, including his famous Chanel couture collections. The exhibition was a fitting tribute to the designer, showcasing his immense contributions to the fashion industry.
In addition to honouring Lagerfeld’s legacy, the event raised money for the Costume Institute, which is one of the world’s leading centres of research and scholarship on fashion history. The institute’s exhibitions are some of the most visited in the world, and the funds raised by the Met Gala help to support their work.
