Australia’s largest sneaker, streetwear & lifestyle convention, was recently hosted in Melbourne for the very first time.
The SNEAKERLAND convention came about to give ‘sneakerheads’, collectors, resellers, content creators, creatives and anyone like-minded the opportunity to buy, sell, trade and lay eyes on some of the rarest sneakers, streetwear pieces and apparel on the market, such as Jordan 1 OG Chicago (1985), Nike SB Dunk Low Paris and Nike Air Yeezy Red October.
Featuring the largest-ever trading floor hosting over 3000 sneakers across 52 vendors, SNEAKERLAND Melbourne also included basketball competitions, entertainment spaces, live sneaker auctions, a sneaker museum, exclusive sneaker and streetwear drops, raffle prizes, DJs and more.
SNEAKERS have become a lucrative business for many. Sneaker brands Nike, Air Jordan, New Balance, and Adidas are currently the best performers for investment and resale; however, you’ll need to make sure you’re choosing the right Sneaker model.
The model of the sneaker is paramount when making a purchase and the condition it’s in if previously owned. Unworn will always fetch a higher price than worn runners even though some worn shoes will still fetch a great price, unworn ones will always return more.
The more people that want a particular model of a sneaker, and how many were released, also determines the status of the market price!
A high-profile person with an association with the brand, such as Michael Jordan, former NBA player for the Chicago Bulls and his association with Nike who created the Nike Air Jordan for the star rookie in 1984, is still the most iconic athlete-endorsed brand of all time with sneaker enthusiasts, lining up for days and spending hefty prices on the latest drops.
Resales of the Jordan 1 OG (Chicago 1985) are currently fetching prices from 45K USD up on stockx.com and at the recent sneaker land convention in Melbourne, were able to fetch up to 100K AUD plus.
