Hyatt Centric Melbourne is the city’s latest destination, welcoming back domestic and international travellers to rediscover the city.

Melbourne’s heart lies in creative laneways, a vibrant coffee culture, unique bars, and a dynamic arts scene, the ideal location for Melbourne’s newest contemporary hotel. Opened at the end of 2021, Hyatt Centric Melbourne is the city’s latest destination, welcoming back domestic and international travellers to rediscover the city.

The Hyatt Centric brand is about immersing itself in the city and providing its guests with a launchpad for truly authentic local experiences. The location and spirit of the first Australian Hyatt Centric hotel on Downie Street certainly deliver on this philosophy in spades.

Built on the site of an 1840s blacksmith, the hotel offers 277 contemporary guest rooms across 25 levels, a café, a restaurant, an indoor dedicated events floor, and a rare inner-city outdoor space that caters for personalised celebrations and entertainment. The stylish yet understated interiors throughout have been considered with the global Hyatt Centric customer in mind – free-spirited, exploratory, adventurous, and savvy.

“Hyatt Centric Melbourne inspires the curious-minded and the young-at-heart who want to be in the heart of the action,” says Ilan Weill, General Manager of Hyatt Centric Melbourne. “Our team, engaged and passionate Melburnians, are keen to share their local knowledge, helping our guests to discover authentic experiences, blending the city’s vibrant coffee culture and creative laneway scenes.”

To enhance their stay, guests can enjoy a dip in a 25-meter pool, a workout in the 24-hour fitness studio, have a bite at TOMA Restaurant & Bar, and grab an almond latte to-go from Allie Lane café. Hyatt Centric Melbourne has also collaborated with emerging and established local artists, food producers, and designers to encapsulate Melbourne’s cosmopolitan and dynamic spirit. For guests wanting to invite their puppy for a staycation, a number of balcony rooms located on the 1st to 4th floor are pet-friendly.

TOMA Restaurant & Bar, headed up by up-and-coming Melbourne chef, Jordan Monkhouse, showcases Victoria’s quality produce through a Mediterranean-inspired menu including Spanakopita Manti, Barbequed Snapper Fillet, and Baklava. Guests can also enjoy a Chilli Coconut Sour or Dill Martini while being treated to stunning panoramic views of the city, the Yarra River, and Southbank.

For guests ready to begin the day’s adventure or Melburnians getting a caffeine fix on their way to work, the laneway café Allie Lane will serve fresh brews made with beans sourced from family-owned, third-generation South Melbourne roasters, Cottle Coffee, and treats from Windsor cult donut creator, Morgan Hipworth alongside homemade pastries and sandwiches.

The building, conceptualised by local, respected design firms Architectus and Hecker Guthrie Interiors, and built by Hickory, is a love letter to Melbourne, thoughtfully designed to celebrate the city’s vibrant history. The collaboration between the hotel and local designers sets the stage for guests to continue their personal journey of the multi-faceted city. The interiors celebrate the character of Melbourne’s urban fabric, from the city’s Hoddle Grid business district and the use of tessellated tiles as seen in the custom-designed rugs in the rooms and public spaces respectively to the Victorian era-inspired brickwork in the public spaces. Guests are also invited to discover touches of Melbourne in every corner including custom brass and gold sculptures by Suzie Stanford to symbolise the Gold Rush Era and artifacts uncovered from the hotel’s construction site, repurposed by Lauren Bamford.

Located in a prime location in the heart of Melbourne’s fast-emerging downtown, Hyatt Centric Melbourne is a central point for the city’s premium bars and entertainment spots. The hotel offers convenient access to Southern Cross Station, the Docklands and Southbank precincts, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, and the Crown Entertainment Complex, making it an ideal launchpad for both locals and out-of-town visitors.
