Words from Anna in Aberfeldie –

“Earlier this month, I had the privilege of working on a beautifully renovated Californian Bungalow in the bespoke suburb of Aberfeldie, nestled next to the prestigious Essendon after receiving a call from Paul Harrison, director of Nelson Alexander real estate, to showcase this property.

I remember when I received Paul’s call, I was very excited as he calls me mainly to work on his more unique larger properties.  The questions come flying out as my brain goes into overdrive, without me even questioning, the location of the property and how many square meters it may be. There is a nervousness in the beginning, followed by the countless hours of planning and sourcing, then comes installation day with the team, this by far is the most exhilarating part for me as an Interior designer.

We met with the clients on-site, and I started taking as many photos as I could capturing all the existing furniture, and rooms. My clients were very relaxed and trusted me from the onset, I felt that! They literally gave me free rein to redesign their home. Over the years they had acquired many stunning pieces from their travels and beyond which I included in the transformation, and then there were many more that I could not reposition… they were accepting of this. The home was large with five bedrooms and two living areas, with an amazing outdoor area and a mural on the fence line with pink flamingos surrounding the pool. Such a happy home, I felt this as I moved throughout.

Styling a client’s property that is already furnished is not for the faint-hearted, you need to take the emotion out of the work and desensitise from thinking how your client will feel at the end when half of their treasures are not to be seen but replaced by new art, furnishings, and furniture all so foreign to them. Thankfully my clients loved the result and knew that the new installations created by myself made the home appear even more luxurious than before.

Often, I return on the second day in the morning as I have had a chance to ruminate some more and I tweak a few things up such as fluffing the feathers in the cushions, adding more decor, or sometimes moving some around. This day, downstairs I could hear some new voices entering the house, exciting… as they were the chatter from prospective buyers commenting how much they loved the look and feel of the home, phew… our job was done!”
