The sun will be shining on Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday 8 February for C.F. Orr Stakes Family Day, Melbourne Racing Club’s biggest family race day. Lindsey Smith superstar Scales of Justice is all the rage with punters in the first Group 1 event of 2020, the Neds C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m). The last start Australia Stakes (1200m) victor is favoured to make it two wins on the front in his return clash with triple Group 1 winner Hey Doc, cult hero Begood Toya Mother and Anthony Freedman’s Ringerdingding. Godolphin superstar Avilius, Toorak Handicap champion Fierce Impact and emerging three-year-old Alabama Express will also make for stiff opposition.
The Neds Blue Diamond Stakes series also continues on Saturday with the Neds Blue Diamond Preludes (1100m). The Group 3 colts and gelding prelude sees a must-watch clash between unbeaten colts Hanseatic and Rulership, while in the Group 2 fillies division, Peter and Paul Snowden will be hoping that Fresh can turn the tables against A Beautiful Night, the latter coming out on top in their Blue Diamond Preview on January 25.
To the delight of kids, the front lawn will be transformed into a carnival to celebrate the first Clip Clop Club Day of the year. There will be activities aplenty including a live marine aquarium, an outdoor cinema playing Moana on the big screen and rides such as a Chairoplane, Bumper Boats, Water Zorb Balls and a Ferris Wheel providing the kids (and big kids) the undisputed best views of the track. Jockey Jamie Kah will take time out between rides to meet racing fans and sign saddlecloths.
The Beach Pavilion will be back for a summer beach party for the whole family, with live music, sun-drenched decks, alfresco dining, cooling sand and splash pools for kids to play in. Hungry little ones can dive into some delicious fish and chips thanks to Elwood Bathers, while refreshing Gordon’s Pink Gin cocktails and decadent seafood bites will hit the spot for parents. All-Star Mile Ambassador and Geelong Footballer Joel Selwood will be on course to encourage punters to cast a vote for their favourite horse in the All-Star Mile line-up. It’ll be a family affair for Selwood, who will be bringing his wife Britt, brother Scott and his brother’s girlfriend along for a family outing.
Newlyweds Mikey and Natasha from Married at First Sight will check out the Beach Pavilion on the forecasted warm summer’s day. They will literally see kids on the horizon as they sit back, relax and enjoy the fun in the sun, surrounded by racing and carnival action.
