The festive season is well underway and as we begin to wind down and enjoy Christmas get-togethers with family and friends, it brings up the question of what to wear?
What do you wear to pre-Christmas Parties and then on Christmas day? December is not only the race to get things done professionally but personally, its planning Christmas lunch, the where, the whom, the presents and what to do for yourself! Christmas is a special time of the year no doubt, but it can also a stressful especially if you’re playing the host. Time Management is key, but this can also go down the drain as things get hectic.
So, what are some easy key fashion trends to wear during Christmas time? It is most likely weather dependant so let’s assume it’s consistently around the 25 degrees mark. Florals, pastels and colour are without a doubt a winner. Block colours such as Green, Red and White are always popular choices for Christmas Day.
When the sun’s out it automatically lifts our mood, the ambience and energy. What you wear reflects that. For ladies, there are a few options. If you are going to a lady’s lunch wear skirts to the knees, a top or shirt to go with it and some nice pumps. It creates a clean look, elegant and appropriate for any place. As is a summery dress. A-line or fitted goes well. Maxi dresses are also timeless and a great option, just don’t forget to accessorize with some fabulous earrings, bag or belt.
The busier the outfit the more out of sorts it can look. Less is more. Simplicity can be key. If you have chosen a large bold print, then keep the accessories basic. Don’t accessorize with bold and vibrant colours if your dress is doing all the talking. It’s Christmas. You don’t want to look like a decoration for the tree. You want to be comfortable.
A one-piece suit is one of my favourite options, classic, simple and very polished and can be taken from the day to night.
Strappy shoes may get uncomfortable if worn for long periods of time. If you are going to lunch, then off for cocktails and dinner late into the night bring a change of shoes. Wedges and espadrilles are versatile and go with several kinds of outfits, as do flat sandals. There are many options around, so choose a shoe that can be worn with different outfits. Not only do you get value for money, but you can get great use out of them too.
Christmas lunch can be a busy day so if you’re in the kitchen wear an apron to avoid getting dirty or get dressed at the last minute before your guests arrive. The more you can prepare before the day the better.
If you are out in the evening, then jazz yourself up with some pumps and accessories and freshen up your makeup. Remember to dress the part and dress for the occasion. If it’s a classy establishment then you can’t go past an LBD. Even if it’s Christmas.
Gentlemen let’s turn to you for a minute. As it is summer loafers and chinos would be your best choice, clean, polished and simple. Linen is great as it’s a breathable fabric. Either a linen shirt, shorts or pants will always work well. Pastel colours look great on guys during this period. Shorts to the knee elevate a dressier look incorporating a short sleeve shirt rather than a t-shirt. Block and bold colours always look great paired with white.
I love shopping for men and more so when it comes to shoes, loafers, monk strap or espadrilles are popular for the summer months. These work well when dressing for any kind of summer event and for Christmas day. If it is a more formal event and place of celebration, then the classier derby and oxford shoe is required.
So, with that ladies and gents plan when you can, be smart and dress for the occasion, location and weather. Bring a change of shoes or shirt if need be.
Happy dressing for the Christmas festivities!
