It’s Plain and Simple – Markle Sparkles

Meghan and Harry’s Whirlwind Romance

It was early July 2016 Harry was introduced to Meghan by a mutual friend and a blind date was organised. The two first met for a drink and it hit off immediately and so another date followed shortly. Just four months after meeting Meghan joined Harry on a trip to Africa and a romantic trip to Norway. They made their first public appearance as a couple at the annual Audi Polo at Ascot in England in May 2017 and in November 2017 they announced their engagement.

Meghan’s Style

Even, before she met Harry the well-known ‘Suits’ actress had a love of fashion and dressing up. Her style has evolved over the years from the girl next door to elegant and sophisticated with and edge for modernity.

Meghan knows how to dress to the occasion appropriately, and we are seeing that of more simple and refined choices now that she has officially become ‘The Duchess of Sussex’.

At the Invictus Games Reception September 2017 Meghan is dressed by Self Portrait in a floral green three quarter dress and black Blazer by Alexander Mc Queen. Her hair is kept out with a natural curl and minimal makeup.

Meghan’s Engagement Gown

Australian designers, Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo of ‘Ralph and Russo’ designed the engagement dress. The dress incorporated a sheer bodice and flowing tulle skirt and was first seen on the 2016 Autumn/Winter Runway at Paris Fashion Week. The dress was very fashion forward and was scrutinised for being too daring and an inappropriate choice for that of a Royal Bride to be. Costing $97,000 the dress certainly turned heads and put ‘Ralph and Russo’ into the spotlight around the globe.

Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller designs ‘The Royal Wedding Gown’

The minimalist dress was plain and simple to say the least, however plain can also be extremely well done with a beautiful cut and incorporating exquisite accessories. Meghan wanted a gown that was timeless, elegant with impeccable tailoring and so Clare Waight Keller was chosen as the designer to create such a piece renowned for her classic and beautiful style. The white gown with boat neck bodice framed her shoulders beautifully and emphasised her waist with a three quarter sleeve. The haute couture dress was made of double bonded silk and the underskirt was made of triple silk organza. The five metre long veil was made of ivory silk tulle and included floral designs representing all 53 countries of the Commonwealth.

The Tiara

For me this was the most elegant and regal accessory and was a perfect fitting to the minimalist designed dress. The Tiara belonged to Queen Mary and was given originally as a brooch for a wedding gift in 1893 and later made into a Tiara in 1932.

My Thought’s

Either love it or hate it the dress is classic and will stay timeless for years to come. Personally the waist and cut of the dress could have been more defined. The accessories and veil were absolutely exquisite. The hair for me needed to be a little more polished and her makeup was refreshing as she chose to show her natural beautiful fresh faced self. Harry hand picking forget me nots and including Diana’s favourite flower into the bouquet was a heartfelt inclusion of his mother to his new bride on their magical day.
