Melbourne’s Festive Season: A Magical Celebration Awaits!
This morning, Lord Mayor Nick Reece, joined by Councillor Mark Scott, John Foreman, Silvie Paladino, and Santa, kicked off Christmas in the City of Melbourne with an electrifying announcement!

“This year, Christmas in Melbourne will be bigger, better, and jollier than ever!” The Lord Mayor declared. The city is beautifully adorned to create a festive wonderland, anticipating over 2 million visitors and generating a whopping $150 million in economic activity—fantastic news for our traders! Melbourne is truly the Christmas Capital of Australia, and we know how to celebrate in style!

The city has been transformed into a Christmas wonderland, brimming with festive lights, enchanting displays, and an array of activities that cater to all ages. Whether you’re wandering along Southbank, admiring the majestic Christmas Tree at Federation Square, or soaking in the buzz of Bourke Street Mall and the MYER Christmas windows, there’s no shortage of holiday cheer to embrace!

This morning’s media event had us excited, with the talented John Foreman and his Australian Pops Orchestra. The fabulous Christmas Queen, Silvie Paladino, captivating us and the spectators along Southbank with her stunning rendition of “O Come All Ye Faithful,” while the Nutcracker ballerinas added an enchanting touch. But the real showstopper? Santa Claus himself, surprising everyone with his impressive violin skills!
Mark your calendars for the ‘2025 Christmas Festival’, now running until the New Year. Melbourne is shining brighter than ever with over 650 festive decorations, adorning the streets and laneways. Experience the magic at Christmas Square, where a towering 17.5-metre tree will twinkle with 110,000 lights, and don’t miss the return of the Crown River Show, featuring spectacular nightly water fountains and laser displays.

John Foreman will also take centre stage with a series of dazzling concerts at the Melbourne Recital Centre, including the Great Christmas Singalong starring Silvie Paladino, and many more exciting performances.
