The JW Foundation’s Starry Night Gala brings special guests – Bec Judd, Nadia Bartel & Lindy Klim.

JW Foundation’s Starry Night Gala Shines Bright at NGV Melbourne

On Saturday, 13th September, the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) transformed into a celestial wonderland for the JW Foundation’s highly anticipated Starry Night black-tie gala for the second year running. This opulent event heralded a gathering of over 400 of Melbourne’s most elite and influential figures, all united by a common cause: supporting children and families in need through ToyBox and Duchenne Australia.

As guests arrived, they were greeted by a breathtaking entrance that set the tone for the evening. A magical hallway adorned with flowing drapery hung from the ceiling, creating an ethereal atmosphere. As attendees made their way through this enchanting corridor, they were treated to a signature Champagne that was handed to them by a secret gloved hand, through the drapery.

Among the star-studded guest list was official ambassador Tess Shanahan and her fiancé Shaun Wilson, along with luminaries such as Bec and Chris Judd, Nadia Bartel, Marc and Jessie Murphy, Lindy Klim, Alex and Mia Fevola, Olivia Molly Rogers, Eleanor Baillieu, Nick, and Rozalia Russian, and Khanh Ong. Each guest was invited to capture the moment at a glamorous media wall before indulging in delightful drinks and delectable canapés.

As the evening unfolded, guests were ushered into the grand room of the NGV, where the stunning cathedral ceiling loomed overhead, illuminated by exquisite decor, candelabras, and mesmerising lighting. This was not just a gala; it was an immersive experience inspired by Van Gogh’s iconic Starry Night. Every detail was meticulously curated to captivate the senses, transporting attendees into a dreamlike realm.

The evening’s festivities were expertly hosted by award winning journalist Jacqueline Felgate, who guided the audience through a night filled with heart-warming moments. Founder Jonathan Webber delivered an inspiring speech, sharing the genesis of the JW Foundation and the significance of the Starry Night event in supporting its mission.

As Jonny thank guests for joining the evening, he defined the ‘JW Foundation’ with a clear mission: to support individuals and communities affected by issues deeply personal to him and his wider network. He went on to speak of the passing of his brother Nicholas and the shadow it had left over his family’s home. Jonny spoke of the trauma at the hands of his biological father now deceased. Jonny said, “at the time I was 10 I had endured 32 to 38 broken bones, as well as extensive verbal and psychological abuse. I had idiosyncrasies that developed over time as a coping mechanism. I never told the family of my abuse till I was 26 years old. From these lived experiences came a soul that was damaged and desperate to create change, not to erase the past but to change it.

The night’s fine dining menu featured a gastronomic collaboration from renowned chefs Stephen Nairn of Omnia Bistro, Shane Delia of Maha Restaurant, and Lisa Van Zanten of Get Caked By Lisa.

An exhilarating live auction added to the excitement, providing guests with the opportunity to bid on exclusive items while contributing to a noble cause. The enchanting performances by the Australian Children’s Choir and the talented violinist Yena Choi left the audience spellbound, further elevating the gala’s magical atmosphere.

The Starry Night gala was more than just an event;  last night raising awareness into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy that mainly affects young males, although females can be carriers of the gene. This eventually fatal illness has a short life expectancy. The JW Foundation’s work resonated deeply, reminding everyone of the importance of coming together to support those in need. With its stunning visuals and heartfelt purpose, the Starry Night gala was undeniably a night to remember, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to attend.
