The Woman in Black’ starring John Waters & Daniel MacPherson delivers a hair-raising adventure that will stay with you long after the curtains close.

Last Friday evening, Melbourne theatregoers were in for a spine-chilling treat as The Woman in Black opened at the Athenaeum Theatre. Starring the talented duo of John Waters and Daniel MacPherson, this play is a haunting and terrifying live theatre experience that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

As the lights dimmed and the eerie atmosphere filled the theatre, the audience was transported to Eel Marsh House in the small market town of Crythin Gifford in North England.

The story is told through the narration of Arthur Kipps, played masterfully by John Waters who begins the novel too distressed to share a ghost story with his family, and then recounts how as a young solicitor he was sent to oversee the funeral of a Mrs Alice Drablow, a client of his law firm.

Along the way he encounters many who seem unwilling or unable to share the secrets of Eel Marsh House and its inhabitants, until he himself encounters the Woman in Black, and begins to unravel the mystery of the haunted past and eerie spectre he sees.

Join him and a sceptical young actor played by Daniel MacPherson, as they delve deep into his darkest memories.

Craig Lawson reviewed the play Friday evening and said, “it’s a haunting stage design that sets the perfect eerie atmosphere, coupled with the exceptional performances of two talented actors that will leave you on the edge of your seat. But hold on tight, because the real thrill comes from the lighting and sound dynamic that will have you jumping out of your skin. Get ready for a spooky ride that will have you questioning every shadow and sound, as ‘The Woman in Black’ delivers a hair-raising adventure that will stay with you long after the curtains close.
