The Sony Foundation is a beacon of hope for young people battling cancer in Australia. This national youth cancer charity is dedicated to closing the gap that currently exists for those aged 15-25 who are facing this challenging journey.
The River4Ward supports Sony Foundation’s ‘You Can Stay’ program. The ‘You Can Stay’ provides free and uncapped accommodation to regional youth cancer patients, and their families, who must relocate to metropolitan areas to access life-saving treatment that is not available closer to home.
Last Thursday, some of Melbourne’s most well-known personalities attended the annual River4Ward event at The Glasshouse.
Georgie Tunny, Lauren Phillips, Darcy Moore, Michelle Payne, Todd Woodbridge, Jason Richardson, Clint Stanaway, and Julia Morris were just a few of the familiar faces in attendance. The event was made even more special with the presence of the Toyota AFL Premiership Cup and the Lexus Melbourne Cup, adding a touch of prestige to the fundraising luncheon.

Cam White a youth cancer patient of Peter MacCallum said “it’s important for me to be at the event today, to say thank you for the support I’ve received this year. To say thank you for the accommodation and my room, and for the access to life saving treatment at Peter MacCallum.”
The highlight of the day was the performances by Sony music artists Daryl Braithwaite and Dylan Wright. Their soul-stirring music resonated with the audience, lifting spirits and inspiring generosity. And generous they were, as the River4Ward event managed to raise a staggering total of $805,000 +. This incredible amount will make a significant impact on the lives of young cancer patients, providing them with much-needed support and resources.
As we celebrate the success of the River4Ward event, let us also remember the young cancer patients who continue to fight bravely every day. They are the true heroes, facing unimaginable challenges with grace and courage. The Sony Foundation is dedicated to supporting these young warriors, ensuring that they have the resources and care they need to navigate this difficult journey.
Let us be inspired by the work of the Sony Foundation and continue to support their mission of closing the gap for young people battling cancer. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those who need it most.
