Get ready, Melbourne! The much-anticipated opening of Michael Mann’s new film, “Ferrari,” is finally here! Opening tomorrow, this movie takes us on a thrilling journey into the life of Enzo Ferrari, the iconic owner of the legendary car brand. Enzo is played by Adam Driver alongside the talented Penelope Cruz as his wife Laura Ferrari. Brace yourselves for a captivating story of triumph, challenges, and even a scandalous affair with Lina Lardi played by Shailene Woodley.
I recently had the privilege of attending Opening Night in Moonee Ponds at the all-new Palace Penny Lane Cinema’s for the dazzling red carpet premiere.
The event saw a display of rare and vintage Ferraris lining Puckle Street, graciously provided by Lorbek Luxury Cars. Notable personalities, esteemed guests and local luminaries walked the red carpet creating an electric atmosphere that celebrated the spirit of cinema.
Among the guests were radio broadcaster and television personality Zan Rowe, the stunning Sandy Jawanda of MAFS Australia and Fashion designer Fifi Rostom Salanitri. Local and former Collingwood player Brodie Holland and his wife, Sarita Holland stepped out in style, while Rachel Watts of Netflix’s ‘Yummy Mummies’ added to the elegance. Musical theatre actress Cristina D’Agostino completely stole the show in a floor-length red gown.
Palace Cinemas CEO Benjamin Zeccola said, “we are deeply moved by the enthusiastic embrace the local community has given us. Last night was a fitting way to officially open Palace Penny Lane with locals, MPs, distinguished guests, and influential people all flocking to the glamorous launch of Michael Mann’s, ‘Ferrari’! We are passionate about an Italian sense of hospitality and style and are now sharing that passion with more people at the first new cinema in Melbourne since Pentridge.”
Set in the beautiful Italian countryside, “Ferrari” delves into the fascinating life of Enzo Ferrari, a man who revolutionised automotive industry with his passion for car racing. As the founder of one of the most prestigious car manufacturers in the world, Enzo’s journey is one of ambition, determination, and resilience.
As we follow Enzo’s rise to success, we also get a glimpse into his personal life. Penelope Cruz portrays his wife, adding a touch of elegance and strength to the character. Together, they face numerous obstacles and navigate the complexities of their relationship while building an empire.
But what sets “Ferrari” apart is its exploration of Enzo Ferrari’s illicit affair, adding a layer of intrigue to an already captivating story. Michael Mann’s direction and the exceptional performances of the cast bring this scandalous aspect to life, drawing viewers into the emotional rollercoaster that Enzo experiences.
The premiere of “Ferrari” also provides an opportunity to reflect on Melbourne’s own automotive heritage. The city has a rich history of car manufacturing and racing, with iconic events like the Australian Grand Prix capturing the hearts of motorsport enthusiasts. This film serves as a reminder of the remarkable achievements and the indomitable spirit that drives Melbourne’s automotive culture.
So, are you ready, Melbourne? Grab your popcorn, find a cosy seat, and prepare to be transported into the fascinating world of Enzo Ferrari. With Michael Mann’s visionary storytelling and the stellar performances of the cast, “Ferrari” promises to be a cinematic experience like no other.
