This year the 2020 Portsea Polo sees a refreshing departure of some tired trends from yesteryear, in its place a new bold army of fashion-forward gents who are not afraid to step beyond and embrace directional tailoring.
The seaside summer gives this event a casual and vibrant feel that translates directly into breezy linen suiting, blazer and shorts looks with coordinated stripes and checks. Colour is key at the polo with blends of light and white providing the backdrop for pastel pinks from shell to coral plus nautical blues and smoky greys. Shades of green were the most striking contribution to the mix.
Evergreen
This year’s stand out trend is definitely the new green on the scene. From deep olive shades to earthy sages, this palette has more of a winter feel but not out of place when combined with crisp white. Cotton sateen and fine wool twills are the fabrics of choice for this look that enable rich tones to show their true depth.
Texture
As light neutral shades dominate the landscape and provide easy ways to workshop feature colours, texture adds an extra dimension of surface interest. Chunky woven stripes, seersucker, and open weave checks were the highlights.
Blue Hues
The standard nautical pairing of navy and white is always a predictable favourite but this year French navy and electric hues of cobalt provided some high voltage to this current trend.
Dense florals and abstract minimal prints were used to great effect to break up block colours and add opulence to punchy colouration.
Stripes
From fat candy stripe shirting to textured woven stripe blazers, this look is making a welcome comeback after many years of heavy domination by checks. Horizontal stripes were strongly directional and made a playful appearance in casual knitted shirting.
