‘Evita’, starring Melbourne’s Tina Arena

Evita the musical production tells the story of Argentine Political Leader ‘Eva Peron, the second wife of Argentine President Juan Peron.

Trapped and bored with family life, Eva meets a womanising musician and finds an opportunity to join him in the cities capital of Buenos Aires, eventually abandoned by the musician she faces poverty but continues in her dreams to be successful in the entertainment industry, not long after she meets Juan Peron who is a politician at the time and has his sights set on one day becoming president.

Eva and Juan fall in love and marry and Eva founds a huge charity to help the nation’s poor and rises to greatness with millions of devoted followers.

Evita is loved and hated during her time and dies at theyoung age of 33 with a terminal cancer resulting in a nation mourning.

Tina Arena has recently celebrated over 40 years as an Australian and International recording artist with much success in both Australia and France.

Tina is back in Melbourne her home town to play the part of Eva Peron in the hit musical ‘Evita’ by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber at Melbourne’s State Theatre, Arts Centre from December 5th.

“Her theatrical work includes Cabaret, Nine, Dynamite and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream coat. Now ten years after Tina wowed critics on the West End as Roxie Hart in ‘Chicago, she is back with her most challenging theatrical project to date, Evita”.

The Cast

Starring opposite Tina as Juan Peron is opera superstar Paulo Szot and playing the young revolutionary is Kurt Kansley. Acclaimed musical theatre performer Michael Falzon plays tango singer Magaldi while the role of Peron’s mistress is played by Alexis van Maanen who makes her professional debut to the stage.

The musical was first staged in 1978 and is in its 40thyear and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 70th year, Opera Australia together with John Frost and David Ian are thrilled to bring this modern masterpiece to life.
